Smaller Pixels Increase Sampling Capability — But the Optical System Still Matters
As pixel pitch decreases, modern sensors can sample finer spatial detail. But aliasing, moiré, and false high-frequency image structure can still occur when the optical image contains information the sensor cannot represent correctly.
Lens MTF, magnification, aperture, wavelength, scene detail, sensor geometry, and pixel pitch all contribute to the spatial information reaching the image plane.
Mosaic develops optical components that manage this interaction before the image reaches the discrete sensor grid.
STRUCTURED OPTICAL CONDITIONING
Control the Image Before the Sensor Samples It
Birefringent optical elements can deliberately redistribute image-forming light before it reaches the sensor.
Instead of treating anti-aliasing as generic blur, multiple optical elements can be arranged to create controlled spatial displacement patterns and selected point-spread behavior.
This allows the optical response to be developed around the sensor, wavelength, geometry, and imaging task rather than assuming a single universal filter configuration.

Conventional spatial low-pass filtering and Mosaic's proprietary sensor-aware color-aliasing methods address different aspects of the sampling problem.
